Let’s talk about intention setting. If someone were to ask me a few years ago to define the term intention, I vaguely would have said that it is simply “something you want to do “. Primarily focused on setting and achieving goals awarded very little time to reflect on the meaning behind the term. Now, upon years of personal development and self-reflection, I have a more concrete understanding of what an intention is. Intentions, most simply put, are the purpose behind a goal, aim, or plan. This is directly correlated with goal setting but differs. When one has “set an intention”, they are planning to exert mental, physical, and often spiritual energy towards fulfillment. Intention setting is a necessary element in both acquiring soul-enhancing life experiences and ensuring that one has the best quality of life possible. Intention setting through Prayer Intention setting requires the participating party to take part in some form of self-reflection to increase self-awareness. This newfound awareness could be reflective of repetitive occurrence(s) of certain events in one’s life or regarding the obtainment of certain goals. One can increase awareness around any wellness-related subjects and set divine intentions through Christian prayer. Prayer is the act of communicating with Father God, Jesus Christ, and/or the Holy Spirit. One can pray to express gratitude or make an intentional request regarding loved ones, grievances, and goals. An individual utilizing an intention bracelet as a prayer tool might use the symbolic meaning of each charm for reference or faith based inspiration while awaiting materialization of a prayer request. Additionally, by creating something whimsical or charming, like a “charm” bracelet, we activate the spiritual energy that is necessary for doing what the is requested of us by the Holy spirit so that our prayers will realize. A short history of the charm bracelet The first manufactured charm-styled bracelets, that included dangling figures as they are sold today, can be traced back to the Victorian era. You can view Queen Victoria, who is credited for the popularization of the bracelet, wearing her variations in official Royal portraits. So revered by the Queen were the bracelets that she had several produced, including ones adorned with her children’s baby teeth. At the time, “Love Token” bangle variants that would more closely resemble the jewelry sold at Alex and Ani were the most widely distributed. Later, “padlock hearts” with small insertable keys would increase in popularity. By the early 1900s, charm bracelets began to more closely resemble what we are used to seeing today at places like Tiffany’s, with the wide bold chain. Fine jewelers like Cartier incorporated Art Deco variations of charm bracelets, additionally adding elements like gemstones to designs. Circa the mid-1950s, it was customary to adorn a charm bracelet with items indicative of one’s personal associations like careers, hobbies, places traveled, or lover. There really is an extensive selection of sellers, and styles at every price point in today’s market. Charms and the accompanying bracelets are easily accessible on sites like Etsy, Pandora, Amazon, Brighton Collectibles, and Helen Ficalora. Again, I have chosen to use a “charm” style bracelet in order to set my intentions because it is both easy and fun to reflect on the archetypical symbolism that I have given to each individual charm. Some of my charms hold literal meaning as opposed to symbolic, I’ll leave you to guess which ones! Making an intention bracelet is not complicated and you can apply various techniques in obtaining assemblage. Some people craft their bracelets from “scratch”, assembling each component, from the clasps to the chain. Today, it is more common for novice designers to purchase an already assembled chain, bangle, or bracelet and then direct their creativity toward choosing complementary charms. This tutorial is designed to guide you through the steps of making an intention bracelet, utilizing three different but simple methods. The instructions are simple to follow, and assemblage is in no way time-consuming. Also, I made a concerted effort to incorporate only the most cost-efficient materials needed for completing this project. You can acquire charms or starter bracelets from whatever price point feels most comfortable though. Making an Intention Bracelet Using a Chain The Tools You Will Need for This Bracelet Include: • 5 to 10 charms • A gold or silver chain (at least 10 inches long) • Lobster claw jewelry clasp • Or toggle jewelry clasp • Jump ring • Needle-nosed pliers Instructions: • Cut a traditional bracelet chain to 10 inches long. You can buy a traditional chain at a local craft or jewelry store pre-made. • Add a jump ring to one end of the chain • Add a lobster claw to the jump ring and secure(close) using pliers • Attach jump rings to about 5 to 10 charms and hang onto the bracelet using needle nosed pliers The Christian Bible warns against over-indulgence in terms of jewelry and clothing adornment. Women are encouraged to wear modest hair styles, moderately priced clothing, and non -overwhelming jewelry. 1 Peter 3:4 says- But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. This simply means to be humble and let your vanity be unavailable to the outside world. Furthermore, you are expected to carry yourself in a way that pleases Father God, serene and mild. Father God is truly unimpressed with solely expensive adornments and would like to see you in your most authentic state, where you can worship Him. I hope you have fun creating this simple thought-provoking jewelry. With much love and to your best life! 😊
